Acacia Kindy
Scribbly Gum

Red-necked Wallaby (Macropus rufogriseus) roadkill.
This morning I have a dead red-necked wallaby (I think) at Kindergarten.

I picked it up on my way home on Friday, so it is not sweet smelling, but it is not "mangled" either.

Given the recent guinea pig [killing] news and other topics about lifetimes and so forth this is an opportunity for us to do some significant looking and learning.

I would be looking for help in asking questions that might enable the children's observations to be closely targetted. Given that we (teachers) know nothing about distinguishing features of one species from another you might be able to ask us questions that will help us as well.

I do realise this is a bit on the challengable side ... even what some would consider gruesome ... and certainly inappropriate by many ... and want you to know that we are willing to be challenged on what we are doing ... I believe this aspect of what we do and why, should also be accessible to the children, their families and the community (however defined) and visibly so.

Dannion's re-enactment picture
This is Dannions picture of what he thinks may have happened to the wallaby that was found on the road.

Nat and Dannion will add a bit of a story tommorow after they see their pictures up here :)
